Where to buy and how to verify specs before you pay

MPN, manufacturer spec sheets, warranties and return policies — how to buy confidently in-store and online.

Check the exact part number (MPN)

Retailers often headline “Core Ultra 7, 16 GB, RTX” while hiding compromises: single-channel memory, 250-nit panels, low-TGP cards or DRAM-less drives. Find the MPN on the product page and cross-reference the manufacturer’s official spec sheet.

Watch out for OEM variants

Prebuilt configurations are often assembled with OEM variants — cheaper, but with stripped-down features. Confirm the parts are standard retail components.

Warranty and returns

  • Statutory consumer protection covers manufacturing defects — skip expensive store warranties with exclusions.
  • Manufacturer warranties with accidental damage protection (ADP) make sense for laptops.
  • Check the return window and restocking fees.

The “bundle” trap

“Free accessory” bundles are often pricier than buying the base product alone — compare the base price.

Rule of thumb

Before paying, verify the MPN against the manufacturer spec sheet and confirm a fair return policy without heavy restocking penalties.
