Laptops: what to look for
- Chassis: reinforced aluminium or magnesium reduces flex and protects hinges.
- Cooling: heat-pipe density and vapour chambers decide whether the machine sustains its power under load.
- Ports: at least 2× USB-C with PD (charging + DisplayPort), USB-A, HDMI 2.1 and a card reader for creative work. Thunderbolt 4/5 or USB4 guarantees high-speed docking and charging over a single cable.

Desktops: PSU and expandability
- Power supply: ATX 3.0/3.1 standard, 80 Plus Gold — protects against surges.

- Avoid: prebuilts with proprietary connectors and locked BIOS — they block upgrades.
Rule of thumb
Choose reinforced laptop chassis with full port sets, and for desktops favour modular ATX 3.1 power supplies with standard parts.
